Something personal about Ineke

Ineke was born in Centurion where she grew up with her parents, sister and brother. She attended a local high school and matriculated in 1996, after which she spent a year abroad.

While being an au-pair in the Netherlands, Ineke became intrigued and empathetic to the experiences of children. Upon her return to South Africa, she registered to obtain a teaching degree at the University of Pretoria, which she completed at the end of 2000.

During 2001, Ineke completed her Honours degree in Educational Psychology (BEd) while tutoring a girl with Russell Silver Syndrome. In the years to follow, she also completed an Honours degree in Augmentative and Alternative Communication (BA) on a part-time basis while acting as a class assistant (foundation phase) for a boy with Down Syndrome in a mainstream school. From 2005 to 2007, she taught at a primary school (intermediate and senior phase) where most of the learners were second language learners. She was selected into the Master’s degree programme for educational psychology (MEd) in 2006. Ineke completed her Master’s degree at the end of 2009, which included an internship year at a private high school for learners with learning disabilities in Constantia Park, Pretoria.

As an educational psychologist, Ineke takes special interest in the identification and support of learners with learning difficulties as well as disabilities. She enjoys interacting with her clients and getting to know their unique circumstances. She takes special interest in younger children since she believes in the value of early identification of potential barriers to learning.
